May Newly Defined Subgenotypes Va and Vb of Newcastle Disease Virus in Poultry Be Considered Two Different Genotypes?

چکیده
We read with great interest the article by Susta et al. (1), wherein the authors report genetic diversity among Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strains circulating in poultry populations along with classification of genotype V into three newly defined subgenotypes, subgenotypes Va, Vb, and Vc, based on fusion (F) gene sequence analysis. Subgenotype Va was defined by interpopulational evolutionary distances from subgenotypes Vb and Vc of 10.9% and 8.7%, respectively (1). Different subgenotypes should have average interpopulational evolutionary distances per site of between 3% (0.03) and 10% (0.1). Different genotypes should have an average interpopulational evolutionary distance per site of 10% (0.1) (2). We conclude that newly defined subgenotypes Va and Vb of NDV (1) may be considered two different genotypes. Further, subgenotype Vc may be considered an ancestral or intermediate virus for both the Va and Vb genotypes.

We appreciate Dr. Desingu’s comments (1) on our paper entitled “Separate Evolution of Virulent Newcastle Disease Viruses from Mexico and Central America” (2). Dr. Desingu points out that the mean evolutionary distance between viruses in subgenotypes Va and Vb is higher than the threshold (10%) set for subgenotype assignment (3) and, therefore, that subgenotypes Va and Vb should be considered tw...
متن کاملHigh genetic diversity of Newcastle disease virus in poultry in West and Central Africa: cocirculation of genotype XIV and newly defined genotypes XVII and XVIII.
Despite rampant Newcastle disease virus (NDV) outbreaks in Africa for decades, the information about the genetic characteristics of the virulent strains circulating in West and Central Africa is still scarce. In this study, 96 complete NDV fusion gene sequences were obtained from poultry sampled in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, and Nigeria between 2006 and 2011. Based on ra...

An outbreak of Newcastle disease (ND) in poultry was reported in Belize in 2008. The characteristics of three virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV) isolates from this outbreak (NDV-Belize-3/08, NDV-Belize-4/08, and NDV-Belize-12/08) were assessed by genomic analysis and by clinicopathological characterization in specific-pathogen-free (SPF) chickens. The results showed that all three strains b...

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is a prototype member of avian paramyxovirus serotype 1 (APMV-1), which causes severe and contagious disease in the commercial poultry and wild birds. In this study, we report the results of phylogenetic analyses of recent NDVs isolated from Markazi province of Iran during a recent outbreak in the commercial broiler with respiratory signs and digestive system lesio...
متن کاملDifferentiation of Virulent and Non-Virulent Newcastle Disease Virus Isolates Using RT-PCR
Newcastle disease is one of the main concerns of poultry farmers. Detection of virulent strains of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) has a great impact on control measures against the disease. In this study RT-PCR was optimized in high sensitivity in order to differentiate the virulent from non-virulent NDV isolates directly in tissue homogenates. The vaccinal NDV strain and known field isolates we...
